WATERSIDE WEDNESDAY

Tuesday we decided to go for a bit of a walk at Point Nepean National Park.
For many years - up until 1988 this area was used by the army.
We did the Fort Nepean Walk about a 7km return walk

It is described as a flat walk but it isn't really. There are quite a few hilly areas and steps as well. If you are riding a bike the track for cyclists also goes onto the road

There used to be a quarantine there as well

This is the ruins of what was a Cattle Jetty built in 1879

Fabulous driftwood on the beach

Old pilon and great rusted bolt

Lizard sunning itself on Coles Track

Love this rusted pole on Coles Track

We walked the length of this area

Eagles Nest - the highest point on the Mornington Peninsula where they built an encasement for hidden arms in 1888 to protect Port Phillip Bay and stop the enemy entering

The entry to Fort Pearce (it is underground)

It was amazing walking through these tunnels and old ruins

This sign shows what Fort Pearce Barracks was like.
We also walked as far as you can see in this pic.

Some fun Aussie Slang on a sign in the old fort

PortPhillip Bay on the left and Bass Strait on the right.
not much land in between
We walked along here as far as you can see.

Just along here is where the memorial to Prime Minister Harold Holt who drowned on the beach here in 1967

The Memorial Stone placed in memory of Harold Holt

You would wonder how security people would allow a Prime Minister to swim in an area like this

Your photos are absolutely stunning Alison! I think I have to put another place on my bucket list. Amazing that thriftwood and I love these old military places. The sea is so beautiful, the color is way blueer than the sea over here, that is greyish. I love the sea, but your post makes it perfectly clear that the sea is dangerous. Always and anywhere, even skilled swimmers can drown in the sea and even a prime minister can.
I think will post a blog about your birthday give away next week, I do hope you won't mind that I'm postponing this, as I want to make a post about it, not only mentioning it, this week will probably be filled with Halloween neither was it suitable to mention it with a challenge. Hope you'll understand. Have a great day!

Sometimes your blog picts look just like the U.S. west. Today that is what I could have been looking at. Yet, you are across the sea!

Oh how beautiful, Alison! I would love to walk along that ledge. Just beautiful! The sea colors are just gorgeous. We were by the sea not long ago, and now it makes me want to be there, just to see the different colors. Interesting note about the prime minister! That piece of drift wood is absolutely spectacular!

Have a great weekend,
Kitty

Fabulous views across the park, you know of course I am drawn to the old washed out jetty structure.

Have you spotted any good Christmas swaps yet? I was looking forward to the vintage stocking but it looks like Mary Ann is not up to it this year.
