WATERSIDE WEDNESDAY

WATERSIDE WEDNESDAY
Balcombe Creek Mount Martha
Barbara Jacksier is hosting another Waterside Wednesday
Have a look at Barbara's blog and check out everyone's post
This week I have done a post on the creek near my local beach
Balcombe Creek
This creek has a fabulous boardwalk that goes about 3.5km (2.2miles),
so makes for a great walk. Balcombe Creek flows for nearly three kilometres through riverbank bush and widens into a tidal estuary before entering the bay at Mt. Martha beach. The natural opening and closing of the mouth allows salt water to enter the estuary and is an important feature of the system.
Balcombe Creek is such a beautiful and peaceful area

This coastal estuary and wetland contain dense remnant Melaleuca swamps and other flora and fauna of very high local and regional significance.

Looking from the Creek under the road towards the beach
We walked under the road to the beach

Looking back to the creek from the beach

Another babysitting day so we made sure Riley held Max's hand as there
was quite a drop from the sand down to the water
This is the creek flowing through to the beach
You can see here how the sand has eroded with the wild Winter weather we have had.

It will be interesting to see how the beach recovers from our harsh Winter

Riley loved throwing rocks into the water so Max kept a firm hold of his little hand

I love the photos of Max and Riley. You must be happy to be coming out of winter. I'm not to happy to be heading into it!

Beautiful creek, so serene after all the havoc the weather brought your way. Here in Florida we are used the erosion the storms and hurricanes do to our beaches. I remember in 1985 they had to bring in barge loads of sand to refurbish our beaches. They're still are not as deep as they used to be, but they are much better than the day after.

Lovely, lovely post. I look forward to seeing more pics of your beaches, now that winter is coming to an end.

It's amazing what havoc nature can wreck and how beautiful it can still be. Must be lots of wildlife on the creek. Thanks for being part of Waterside Wednesday.

Hi Alison, thanks for dropping by :)
We are in the Dandenong Ranges, near Emerald and the lovely trees were at the Whitehorse Civic Centre.
I often see your comments on other blogs. You live in a beautiful part of the world too. That walk would be a great one for my boys too!

Very pretty! Around here I have always thought of creeks as small bodies of water you could just about jump over, this looks very big!

Hi Alison

Your photos are beautiful, I haven't been for a walk along the creek for ages - you've inspired me.

Glad Max was pleased with the football results, yes you did have a warm night, bit wet today, but not so bad

Hi Allison,
Riley and Max appear to be having a wonderful day. How great that you were able to capture it. The creek is beautifully serene in these photos. Weather really can play havoc with the waterways... Here is FL we have incredible storms. One of my favorite beaches is totally reforming...one side has eroded terribly, but the other side is growning...shifting currents, storms, winds...all play a role.

Your post is so lovely. I look forward to following you...
